No orcas present.
Hello everyone! It has been a very long time since we have made any comment. There hasn't been any northern resident activity around here although the A36s were seen on the northern coast at the beginning of April. Around April 20th there were numerous transient sightings from Port Hardy to here in Blackney Pass. We recorded several hours of transient calls in Blackfish Sound on the 21st. This was an unusually long session (for transients) and unfortunately, the fog defeated our attempts to find out which whales were calling. Dolphins have been around through the winter and spring. Perhaps the most exciting news came from Donna MacKay, Nic Dedeluk and Alex Morton that humpbacks are back in the area. We haven't seen any yet but are keeping a watchful eye on the Pass just in case. We can definitely sense that the seasons are turing and summer will not be long in coming!
